In January 2011, I started my martial arts club from scratch, with just 50 members in the first year. I worked days at my full-time job and spent my evenings and weekends at the club, barely seeing my family. I was worn out, and by late 2016, someone called my club a “hobby business.”
That comment hit hard, and I realised I had to get serious.
I found a mentor, learned how to market my club properly, and within 12 months, I quit my day job and went full-time with my club. By 2018, we had started growing steadily, but I still faced major struggles. My mentors disappeared when I needed them most, and I felt stuck.
But I persisted.
By 2020, we hit 272 members, and despite the challenges of the pandemic, I managed to pivot my club with online classes, keeping us afloat. Yet, I was doing everything—sales calls, cleaning, admin, teaching classes—and burning out.
That all changed in 2021 when I hired the right staff, found reliable mentors, and implemented systems that allowed me to step back. We finally cracked 400 members and hit $500K+ in revenue. Since then, we haven’t looked back.
In fact, we’re now averaging $40,000+ in recurring monthly revenue.
And in 2024, I opened my second club, further expanding my business and freeing up more time to enjoy life with my family.
